CC DARE is based on three main types of activities:

• Country level activities
• Regional training courses
• National and regional workshops to communicate project results and share experiences and lessons learnt.

The process of identifying country activities under CC DARE is distinctive for the programme, as it is entirely demand driven. Proposals for potential activities are formulated by national stakeholders and submitted to CC DARE. During the review process, the proposals are assessed based on selected criteria. Activities may target the following areas:

• Integration of Climate Change issues into development planning
• Research and Knowledge development
• Capacity Building, awareness raising, training and education
  Water resources
• Agriculture and forestry
• Human health
• Infrastructure, Energy and Transportation
• Ecosystems and Biodiversity
• Climate Information and Modelling

The above list is not exhaustive as other relevant areas may be identified and prioritized by partner countries. A key issue is that CC DARE activities should help removing immediate barriers to climate change adaptation and support activities that can catalyze larger initiatives and longer term climate change adaptation efforts by contributing to:

• Enhanced knowledge, skills and partnerships in systematic mainstreaming of climate change issues;
• Stronger technical and institutional capacities for identifying, analyzing, prioritizing, and implementing cost-effective adaptive measures;
• Documenting the experience and knowledge gained to allow others to benefit from the evolving body of best practices;
• Refined or strengthened national adaptation plans and policies

In addition to the technical and financial support provided for activities at country level, regional training courses on key adaptation issues related to agriculture, water, mainstreaming and climate data and modelling are also planned under the CC DARE programme. The aim is to promote regional cooperation and synergies and to provide a knowledge- and experience sharing platform across countries. The first training session on Integrated Water Resources Management and Climate Change took place in Kampala in May 2009.
